Celebrating the enlightenment of Buddha Shakyamuni
Where: Zendō in the Fairmount UCC Education Bldg
When:
Friday and Saturday, December 8-9
Zen monasteries and centers mark the morning of December 8, which this year is a Friday, as the moment when Buddha Shakyamuni attained the way.
To honor Buddha’s awakening, we will open the zendo for meditation on Friday evening until Saturday morning, December 9, at sunrise. We are doing this on Friday night rather than Thursday night because of work schedules.
Schedule:
Friday, Dec 8, 7pm–9pm
Chanting, meditation, and kinhin
Friday, Dec 8, 9pm–midnight
Meditation and voluntary (unannounced) kinhin
Saturday, Dec 9, midnight-7:33am (sunrise)
Meditation and voluntary (unannounced) kinhin
You may come or sit for all or just a portion of this time. Until 9pm Friday, we’ll check the door on the half hour for late comers (we keep the door locked for security reasons when we are in the zendo). After 9pm someone will check on the hour. From 9pm on we will ring a chime to mark the hour.
We will have hot tea available in the anteroom.
